Scamlite Rosh Hashanah
Our Community Director
Simon Hamilton has organised
a special service for the
Second Day Rosh Hashanah and
this is based on the very
popular SCAMlite model. It
is aimed at assisting those
members of our Community
with less familiarity with
the traditional service or
less facility with Hebrew
who may perhaps struggle to
find intellectual
stimulation or spiritual
contentment in the
traditional service.
It will be about
exploring the why’s and not
the how’s of this festival.
It will take the form of a
round-table discussion led
by facilitators and will be
based on the original
sources in English. All
those taking part will sit
round a table and there will
be a number of such tables
so that the proceedings will
be more intimate and
friendly. Each facilitator
will go round the table
asking people’s names and
then each person will review
the sources and the
questions which will be set
out in printed
documents.There will be an
open discussion around the
table and this will enable
everyone to ask questions on
the sources and the Rosh
Hashanah festival that they
do not fully understand.
Community Directors
Over their first year
with our community, Joanna
and Simon Hamilton have
worked wonders both with the
youth and children in
setting up new groups and
activities and with Shul
members looking for a
different service. In fact,
they have been so busy that
it has now been decided that
they need an Assistant Youth
Director to help them in
their work from September
onwards.
